With reference to your letter No.43176/1915 of September 22nd last, relating to the establish- ment of the Registry of Companies at Shanghai, I am directed by Secretary Sir E.Grey to state that he laid before the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury a proposal by which the contribution of three hundred pounds a year to be made by the Government of Hong Kong in return for the fees received at Shanghai, would have been allocated amongst His Majesty's Consul General as Registrar, a junior consular officer as Deputy Registrer, and the Crown Advocate as Legal Adviser. I am to enclose a copy of their Lordships' reply, from which Mr. Boner Law will see that their Lordships are not prepared to sanction any increase in the emoluments of the Consul General.
In these circumstances Sir E.Grey is prepared to agree that the contribution to be paid by the Colony should for the present be fixed at twa hundred pounds a year, but he is of opinion that in addition the Colony may fairly be asked to supply the necessary registers, forms and other stationery, and also to pay the postage and petty expenses of the Shenghại
Registry
